Full Time, year round. Pay and responsibilities may be tailored to the candidate and pro-rated to be 6,8, or 12 months of work per year. Extended hours may be required to meet business needs. The schedule will fluctuate seasonally and be in line with peak occupancy and revenue. This critical role is the most senior position in Heli Ski Operations. Any peak period absences must be approved in advance of the season.

COMPENSATION:
Based on qualifications an annual salary equivalent of $70k - $85k (Pay and responsibilities may be tailored to the candidate and pro-rated to be 6,8, or 12 months of work per year).  Extended benefits and vacation pay.

JOB OVERVIEW:
As a member of the Tyax leadership team the primary role of the Operations Manager is to consistently deliver a premier guest and employee experience related to the heliski program. 
The Operations Manager provides direct leadership in all areas related to the Tyax heli ski experience, holding ultimate responsibility for oversight and efficiency of the heli ski program. This position includes a variety of administrative tasks, planning, budget management, daily problem solving, interviewing, hiring, leading a team, and delivering exceptional guest experiences. The Operations Manager will be great with people, build meaningful professional relationships, and inspire their team to create life-changing mountain experiences.  Guiding heliski groups throughout the season is encouraged for the Operations Manager to stay connected to the core guest experience and operation.

Throughout the operating seasons the Operations Manager will show a large degree of flexibility in working hours with longer days in the winter season, and diligent execution of planning, preparation and implementation spring, summer and fall.

The Operations Manager role and responsibilities are expected to evolve with changes to Tyax organizational structure, adaptations to the list of responsibilities below should be expected.  The Operations Manager will work with the team to grow the length and success of the winter heli ski season.  

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Leadership and scheduling of Assistant Heli Ski Operations Manager, guide team, radio operator and ski tech
  • Guide training administration
  • Guiding 20-40 days per winter
  • Medical team coordination and scheduling
  • Helicopter contractor negotiations, scheduling, coordination and communication
  • Flight mins, log, vert & times, program
  • Parks, land and tenure, reporting and development
  • Run development program
  • Fuel Systems maintenance, inspections, upgrades, supply, location changes and permits
  • Communications equipment maintenance, inspections, upgrades/improvements, supply and permits
  • Emergency, Rescue, Avalanche Plans, audits and updates
  • First aid and rescue equipment maintenance, inspections, upgrades
  • Mapping, fieldbooks, helicopter tablets, wall map upgrades and maintenance
  • Ski and rescue equipment for guests and guides upgrades and maintenance
  • Attend Helicat and CAA meetings 1-2 times per year
  • Infoex &  heliski digital subscriptions management
  • Is a key member of the leadership & lodge team(s) and is responsible and accountable for leading the site operations, guest experience, employee experience, and infrastructure aspects of the heliski program.
  • Works with the Tyax leadership team to reach annual and quarterly goals and KPI’s outlined collaboratively with the General Manager.
  • Overarching Human Resources duties for all Tyax employees within your department , including recruitment, onboarding, training, coaching. Provide direction, feedback, and ongoing coaching to develop and lead staff.

  • Communicate with supervisors, office personnel, and area management staff throughout Tyax in a cooperative and effective manner.
  • Show up to work with a growth mindset, continuously looking to Improve the business processes for your department through analysis and collaboration.
  • Works with the General Manager to review financial information and adjust operational budgets to promote profitability.
  • Acts as a main point of contact and host for heliski guests, guides and heli ops support. 
  • Works with the General Manager to create a safe and enjoyable work environment for all employees, adhering to Occupational Health & Safety requirements, Worksafe BC, WHMIS, etc.

  • Plays a critical role in the Tyax Emergency Response plan procedures as required in an emergency.

  • Administration including, but not limited to: hiring and onboarding heli ski guides, payroll, accounts payable, reconciling invoices, filing, first aid ordering, audits and supplier ordering.

Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • ACMG Ski Guide, Mountain Guide, or CSGA Level 3 Certification 
  • Minimum of 3 years experience as a lead heli ski guide
  • Canadian Avalanche Association Level 2 Certification and professional membership
  • Computer literate and comfortable with intermediate/advanced level of word processing, spreadsheets and Google Workspace
  • Current 80 Hour First aid Ticket or OFA Level 3
  • Experienced and confident user of INFOex 
  • References are required


Compensation

$70,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
